Solution

We will compare the side lengths of both triangles.

Step 1 — Sides of Triangle RED

Let us look at the first triangle, RED\triangle \text{RED}.

We find the lengths of its sides.

Side RE measures 3.5 cm.

Side ED measures 5 cm.

Side RD measures 6 cm.

Diagram 1

Step 2 — Sides of Triangle JAM

Now let us look at the second triangle, JAM\triangle \text{JAM}.

We find the lengths of its sides.

Side JA measures 3.5 cm.

Side AM measures 5 cm.

Side JM measures 6 cm.

Diagram 2

Step 3 — Comparing Side Lengths

Let us compare the side lengths of both triangles.

We see that side RE is equal to side JA.

RE=JA\text{RE} = \text{JA}

=3.5 cm= \mathbf{3.5 \text{ cm}}

We see that side ED is equal to side AM.

ED=AM\text{ED} = \text{AM}

=5 cm= \mathbf{5 \text{ cm}}

We see that side RD is equal to side JM.

RD=JM\text{RD} = \text{JM}

=6 cm= \mathbf{6 \text{ cm}}

All three corresponding sides are equal.

Step 4 — Applying Congruence Rule

Since all three sides of RED\triangle \text{RED} are equal to the three sides of JAM\triangle \text{JAM}, we can use the SSS congruence rule.

SSS stands for Side-Side-Side.

This rule tells us the triangles are congruent.

The corresponding vertices are R to J, E to A, and D to M.

So, RED\triangle \text{RED} is congruent to JAM\triangle \text{JAM}.

Answer

(i) Yes, the triangles are congruent. (ii) REDJAM\triangle \text{RED} \cong \triangle \text{JAM}
