Take a look at the 'infinite lift' above. Does it remind you of a number line? In what ways?
This lift is like a number line because it shows numbers in a clear order.
Step 1 — Comparing Features
Look at the 'infinite lift' above. It has many numbers listed. A number line also shows numbers. The lift has a central point, 0. A number line also has a 0. Numbers above 0 are positive. Numbers below 0 are negative. This is exactly like a number line. Positive numbers go up. Negative numbers go down. This is like a vertical number line.
Step 2 — Spacing and Order
The numbers on the lift are evenly spaced. The gap from 0 to 100 is the same. The gap from 100 to 200 is the same. All these gaps are equal. A number line also has equal spacing. Numbers increase as we go up. Numbers decrease as we go down. This shows numbers in a clear order.
Answer
(i) It has numbers arranged in a clear order. (ii) It has a central point, which is 0. (iii) Positive numbers go in one direction (up). (iv) Negative numbers go in the opposite direction (down). (v) The numbers are equally spaced.
