Parallel lines always stay the same distance apart and never cross.

Step 1 — Understand parallel lines

We need to find a line parallel to line 'a'. Parallel lines never meet. They keep the same distance between them. Imagine extending them forever.

Step 2 — Compare line 'a' and line 'b'

Look at line 'a' and line 'b'. They are not the same distance apart. If we extend them, they will meet. So, line 'b' is not parallel to line 'a'.

Step 3 — Compare line 'a' and line 'c'

Now look at line 'a' and line 'c'. They appear to be equally spaced. The distance between them looks constant. If we extend them, they will never meet. So, line 'c' is parallel to line 'a'.

Answer

(i) Line a is parallel to line c. (ii) We decide this because these two lines are always the same distance apart and never meet, no matter how far they go.
