Question 5
For the numbers in the previous exercise, find out how to get each number by making the smallest number of button clicks and write the expression.
We find the smallest number of clicks by writing the number using its standard place values.
Step 1 — Understand the problem
The problem refers to a number from a previous exercise. The example given is for the number 5072. We need to write this number as an expression. Each multiplier in the expression counts as one "button click". Our goal is to find the expression with the fewest clicks.
Step 2 — Use standard place values
To use the fewest clicks, we use standard place values. Each digit in the number shows its value. For 5072, the digit '5' is in the thousands place. The digit '0' is in the hundreds place. The digit '7' is in the tens place. The digit '2' is in the ones place.
Step 3 — Write the expression
Let us write 5072 using its place values. We multiply each digit by its place value. Then we add these parts together. This gives us the expanded form of the number.
Step 4 — Count the total clicks
The "button clicks" are the digits used as multipliers. These digits are 5, 0, 7, and 2. We add these digits to find the total clicks.
Answer
(i) Minimal clicks expression: (ii) Number of clicks: 14
