Solution

We will share 3 rotis equally among 4 children.

Step 1 — Find the fraction for each child

Look at the picture. There are 3 rotis. There are 4 children. Each roti is already cut into 4 equal pieces. So, each piece is 14\frac{1}{4} of a roti. To share equally, each child gets some pieces from each roti. Each child gets 14\frac{1}{4} from the first roti. Each child gets 14\frac{1}{4} from the second roti. Each child gets 14\frac{1}{4} from the third roti. We add these parts together for each child.

Fraction of roti each child gets=14+14+14\text{Fraction of roti each child gets} = \frac{1}{4} + \frac{1}{4} + \frac{1}{4}

=1+1+14= \frac{1+1+1}{4}

=34= \frac{3}{4}

34 of a roti\boxed{\frac{3}{4} \text{ of a roti}}

Diagram 1

Step 2 — Write the division fact

We are sharing 3 rotis among 4 children. The division fact shows this sharing. It tells us how much each child gets.

3÷4=343 \div 4 = \frac{3}{4}

3÷4=34\boxed{3 \div 4 = \frac{3}{4}}

Step 3 — Write the addition fact

Each child gets 34\frac{3}{4} of a roti. There are 4 children. If we add up what all 4 children get, we should get the total rotis.

34+34+34+34\frac{3}{4} + \frac{3}{4} + \frac{3}{4} + \frac{3}{4}

=3+3+3+34= \frac{3+3+3+3}{4}

=124= \frac{12}{4}

=3= 3

34+34+34+34=3\boxed{\frac{3}{4} + \frac{3}{4} + \frac{3}{4} + \frac{3}{4} = 3}

Step 4 — Write the multiplication fact

Each child gets 34\frac{3}{4} of a roti. There are 4 children. If we multiply the share per child by the number of children, we get the total rotis.

34×4\frac{3}{4} \times 4

=3×44= \frac{3 \times 4}{4}

=124= \frac{12}{4}

=3= 3

34×4=3\boxed{\frac{3}{4} \times 4 = 3}

Answer

Fraction of roti each child gets is 34\frac{3}{4}. Division fact: 3÷4=343 \div 4 = \frac{3}{4} Addition fact: 34+34+34+34=3\frac{3}{4} + \frac{3}{4} + \frac{3}{4} + \frac{3}{4} = 3 Multiplication fact: 34×4=3\frac{3}{4} \times 4 = 3
