Solution

An arithmetic progression has a first term and a constant common difference.

Step 1 — For AP (i)

Let's find the first term. The first term is the very first number in the sequence. For 3,1,1,3,3, 1, -1, -3, \dots, the first term is 3. Let's find the common difference. We subtract any term from its succeeding term. We will subtract the first term from the second term.

d=13d = 1 - 3

2\boxed{-2}

Step 2 — For AP (ii)

Let's find the first term. For 5,1,3,7,-5, -1, 3, 7, \dots, the first term is -5. Let's find the common difference. We subtract the first term from the second term.

d=1(5)d = -1 - (-5)

=1+5= -1 + 5

4\boxed{4}

Step 3 — For AP (iii)

Let's find the first term. For 13,53,93,133,\frac{1}{3}, \frac{5}{3}, \frac{9}{3}, \frac{13}{3}, \dots, the first term is 13\frac{1}{3}. Let's find the common difference. We subtract the first term from the second term.

d=5313d = \frac{5}{3} - \frac{1}{3}

43\boxed{\frac{4}{3}}

Step 4 — For AP (iv)

Let's find the first term. For 0.6,1.7,2.8,3.9,0.6, 1.7, 2.8, 3.9, \dots, the first term is 0.6. Let's find the common difference. We subtract the first term from the second term.

d=1.70.6d = 1.7 - 0.6

1.1\boxed{1.1}

Answer

(i) First term = 3, Common difference = -2 (ii) First term = -5, Common difference = 4 (iii) First term = 13\frac{1}{3}, Common difference = 43\frac{4}{3} (iv) First term = 0.6, Common difference = 1.1
